Sumimura Yoshimori, a 14-year-old junior high school boy, is a descendant of Kekkaishi, an exterminator of monsters. He fights to protect the land at his school that possesses a lot of spiritual energy. Because the land possess spiritual energy, his job is to eliminate any ghost/spirit that gets there before the ghost/spirit grows too powerful from absorbing the energy. Yoshimori fights to be stronger in order to protect the land as well as protect/surpass Tokine, his childhood friend, which is also a protector of the land.
